Improved information for Norwegian travellers
2007-11-12
Trivector System delivers a complete installation for information to travellers in Oslo Bus Terminal, the largest bus terminal in Norway.
Every weekday at Oslo Bus Terminal, nearly 1000 buses arrive and depart, sometimes only seconds apart. Tens of thousands of passengers use the transit hall and the platforms. The traffic controllers working in shifts, manage and direct the bus traffic for maximum efficiency in terms of bus terminal usage, passenger comfort and with respect to any disturbances or delays in traffic. Without interruption in traffic, Trivector System has now delivered and set up a completely new system for traffic information to travellers and the traffic controllers.
Improved information to passengers
Distributed around the bus terminal you now see more than a hundred large, clearly legible displays guiding passengers to the correct gate, and displays that help the bus drivers perform their duties. Tactile maps and speech units will shortly be installed to assist the visually impaired. Bus driver displays show both video images to facilitate reversing as well as route information and messages to the driver.
Enhanced traffic control
The complete installation is managed by traffic controllers and informants, operating from twelve work stations. All stations are equipped with the most up-to-date and efficient, specially designed software for traffic management and for updated passenger information.
Fact file: Displays
- Displays and cabinets from Trivector System, designed for indoor and outdoor installation.
- Rugged and burglar-proof designs in aluminium and stainless steel with anti-graffiti coating.
Fact file: Information system
- Central system: Trivector IntraInfo v3, an integrated part of Trivector's complete realtime information system TriTrans.
- Time table and realtime information is transmitted digitally to the central system from, for example, Oslo's realtime system using standard protocols.
- Status for all hardware and software is reported continuously.
- The traffic information system enables manual update of arrival and departure times, delays, cancelled trips and other remarks.
- The traffic control system manages allocation of bus stops and parking places, detects buses, operates doors etc.
- The messaging system enables transmitting messages to passengers or drivers, on selected displays.
- The statistics module includes traffic statistics of various kinds and gives data for invoices of bus terminal usage.
- All programs in all 150 computers are updated automatically.
