The speech module TriTal uses mp3 files.

A speech module for next stop spoken alerts in buses, with sound clips stored in mp3 format. The speech module is connected to a vehicle computer which controls the spoken alerts.

The TriTal module is of rugged design and is extremely resistant to shock and vibration.
